"Bathroom issues"

Posted in Group:

My 5 year old son who has mild autism often has constipation issues. Im sure this is due to his diet which is lacking lots of veggies and most fruits, but these are things he just will not eat, not to mention he would rather cut off his arm then take any type of vitamin! So I try Miralax quite often and sometimes it will work but most often does not! Does anyone else have any related problems or have any tips on what I may be able to try to keep him regular? Thanks so much in advance!

There are so many types of the natural medicine, the only thing is that he is very young. The doctor that has a holistic approach regarding medicine, will be able to tell you what he can have or not. I do not know about the children, but some adults had good results after the acupuncture. Wishing you well. God bless you.

Hi. My son used miralax for years. It helped so much. We have great doctor snd others to help....my son is now 20 and totally potty trained. Do not give up. He still prefers pull ups over under wear. Because of the rugrat movie. But he is potty trained. I thought he would never be. It has to be his idea. I think that is what counts. They know so much more that they can tell you...I hope it will happen for you....also. Tell the doctor to write a prescription for pull ups or diapers. It should be covered as a medical need. We had ours paid for up until he didn't need them. Not everyone know that thy should be covered. As long as your doctor will write a script for its medically needed,.......nd write o your insurance co. That by using pull ups you are saving them money. Diapers are a waste because you lose one every time you have to take it off. But pull-ups you can reuse. Thus save money".......I hope this helps........by the way my. Son was 18 before he started wearing underwear and totally potty trained. Pooping(excuse the word) was the hardest"

I know a lot of the children I worked with were on different types of high powered probiotics / acidophilus similar to what some adults take but stronger. A lot have gut issues which need to be healed and can be agitated by modern drugs. Your best resource is a DAN doctor or if you know of a parent who is also a practitioner, this a hard find but there are some out there.

Fiber is the key. Fruit Flavored oatmeal would help. Whole wheat toast with his favorite topping would help. If he likes apples, slice them up with peanut butter on top. Push anything with high fiber on him that he likes. Add bran in his favorite muffins when you bake them. There is so many ways to get fiber in him. Take care.
