is it just me.....

Posted in Group:

I am new on this sight and this is the first support group I have joined basically because I and my wife have reached our limit
We live in AZ and are raising a beautiful boy with autism. He is brilliant when it comes to computers, roads, cars and airplanes but socially he struggles
Since his unofficial dx in 2008 we have struggled to support him in this state
We have been evicted twice because Rachel cannot work because of no after school programs that are open until eight. Because I work in Tempe until 730 nightly
Our previous eviction happened at a time when Nathan was settled in at sheely "farms and his teacher Ms. Kelly was his inspiration.
He was forced to change schools, lost his friends, Ms. Kelly and all inspirations to learn
Now he attends a school on lock down
I cannot pop in when I want to some rule that exists only at this school......
the teacher aids basically forced Nathan to eat a burrito, which being the sweet boy he is, he did and he threw it up, the teacher aids got angry at him and had him clean up his mess!
He came home crying for being on red and feeling like he was a bad boy I don't want to think of what that bus ride was for him; all by himself crying and no one consoling him!
When he got home he cried for an hour because "mommy" was at work and he was a bad boy!
he was terrified to go to school because he had lost his 'agenda" (which they did not send home) and he was scared to go back, because the TA told him not to come back without it
He cried uncontrollably until we just kept him home

Once Nathan was placed "on red" for not participating in group (which has always been hard for him when he cannot side play)
He kept saying he was a bad boy and clearly it affected his self esteem

Our "emergency" iep took a month to configure

Regarding the burrito and Nathan’s issues was joke, they downplayed all of our concerns told us how much they love his population and explained their skills and experience
blah blah blah!
his Magellan cm could not show up because she had a more important meeting to attend and his ddd SC just did not show up
we were on our own
we tried hard to advocate for him but were interrupted, undermined and over talked until we just gave up
they said the burrito incident happened because they did not know what Nathan liked, even though he told the aid he did not like burritos!

That is the jist of it
Rachel has had to quit her job, again because his support coordinator has not provided us with a list of after school care so now we are back to struggling to keep the lights on and gas in the car and Nathan fed again

he continues to not be challenged at his school and since I have to make arrangements to see my son
GOD KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON IN THAT CLASSROOM!
my question is there any other parents out there in AZ or other states facing these issues, we don't want to end up on the streets but if I lose my job guess where Nathan will be?
we have even considered just leaving
any advice would be great, I am sorry about the bad grammar I have typed with passion and anger; it is only the tip of the ice berg to how I feel and what is really going on
thanks for all of your time
sincere rely

Make sure you get good support from your couselors each week to let them know what is going on and maybe they can offer some new advice or direction to take. Are there local groups that meet every week with other parents going through this same things that can offer you some help or support? Make sure you check into your State's assistance programs to see if your family qualifies for some help.

That is good that your are receiving some support. Use online to see what is out there to help with more support. Keep trying each day. Sound like he need a good school and one he can stay in and get adjusted in.
