When it comes to autism there are so many roads to take and it can be very overwhelming! I am more familiar with the homeopathic route and enzyme therapy. Here is a great article on enzyme therapy for you to read over if it interests you: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/enzyme-therapy-for-autism.html. There is an amazing array of information out there about homeopathic treatment, but it tends to be a bit preachy, so if you are interested type into your seach bar: Homeopathic+Autism. matrixmagic in the autism support group posted about her son's successful treatment with Phytobiophysics flower essences, if you are interested in contacting her she has her e-mail in her post.

Again, I know this is all very overwhelming and there are multiple road maps, but I did see the change from implementing enzyme therapy, my friend's son went from zero communication and staring at ceiling fans, to interacting. Here is a chart listing the medication typically prescribed for autistic children: http://www.child-autism-parent-cafe.com/autism-medication.html

Perhaps if you post the specific symptoms and/or behaviours that your Dr. is looking to treat you can get more specific feedback that would be helpful in making a decision.

If I can be of any additional help or support, do not hesitate to reach out.

I undestand that there is no cure for autism, but depending on symptoms he has and can be treated at a little at a time. For example, my daughter has autism and she also has AD/HD, anxiety, odd, etc. The doctor gives her adderall for her AD/HD, celexa for her anxiety and so on. If you and your docter can break down of what symptoms he has and then perhaps you will be able find a few medications that be able to work. Just consult with a professional that can help working with you and your son. I wish you the best of luck.
