New here. Just looking for some help.
I am student and I'm completing an assignment, in which i am to try to understand the dynamics of suppurt groups, trends, and attendees. So I am trying to figure out how this all works? I have never done a support group online before and find this to be very interesting and useful.
I have also written several papers on autism and would like to learn and understand more on the subject on a more personal aspect.
any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Gus V.
I understand....I believe the best thing you can do then is to read other's posts on the subject and if you have anything interesting or information you would like to add after having written on the subject this may be helpful for others. At the same time if you feel the need to post on your life as well and to get actively involved in the process as a member it might be a good idea to do this and see what feedback you receive. As always, please be mindful of the sensitive nature of many of the posts here.
Warmly,
Kellie Montgomery, lMFT
Thank you for the advice I will for certain be mindful and any information that i take from here will be generalized. I understand the sensitive nature of this subject and the people looking for help and will be mindful of their needs and privacy.
There is however certain general question I would like to ask before reading some of the post.
Who is the sponsor of the support group? (i.e. Mayo Clinic, the Recovery
Group, Alcoholics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Psych Central,
etc)
What is the cost or registration required to attend?
How do the meetings work if there are meetings? How long are the meetings?
What resources does this site and/or group provide?
What types of interaction takes place, peer-to-peer and participant-to facilitator?
How many people typically log on to participate in the meeting?
Thank you again for all your help.
Gus V.
Hey Gus,
This forum is actually very different from a in person support group, and is more like a board for posting and receiving feedback. There is no cost or registration and there are no set schedules or even meetings...it is simply a place to post and recieve feedback.
We have individual therapy here, but we do not have group therapy here, although I would like to see this happen.
This may not meet your criteria, but the board is a safe place, an anonymous place and one where you can ask for help from your peers.
Warmly,
Kellie Montgomery, lMFT
Thank you for all your help and although it may seem that this type of support group may not meet every part of my assignment it does however bring to light another aspect of therapy that has not been thoroughly explored.
I think in the end this may workout in my favor. I will join in on some of the conversations and already have started reading some of the post. I have noticed that there is a good amount of information being handed down as well as peer support. Very similar to what I would expect a formal support group would interact with its patients.
Thanks
Gus V.
